About this bowl

This is the everyday Japanese soup bowl — the shape you get handed in a good izakaya. The curve sits in your palm, the rim flares just enough to drink from, and the small foot ring keeps the heat off the table.

The finish is lacquer-style over lightweight plastic rather than traditional wood lacquer, which is the reason it can go in the microwave and the dishwasher — real lacquerware forgives neither. You get the look without the babysitting.

It is deeper than it photographs. Miso for one, rice for one, or a small serve of noodles all sit comfortably below the rim.

Looking after it

Dishwasher safe and microwave safe. Wash with a normal sponge — skip steel wool and scouring powder, which will dull any lacquer-style finish.
